The Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally

SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2024

September 12th, 2022

Thank you from the Clerk of the Course

The Final Results for the 2022 Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally can be found here.

For many reasons this year’s rally was not the one we hoped to give you, but despite the changes we hope you all enjoyed the event. Much of the feedback we have had already was that three runs of Cairn Edward wasn’t enough!

In many ways it was a unique event because of the death of the Queen. I wish to personally thank; Scott Sloan, who at short notice stepped in to play a lament on his Bagpipes at the 2-minute silence; the Communications Team, who successfully transmitted the occasion over the Radio Communications system to HQ and throughout the Stages; Mark McCulloch and the team at Signright Graphix, who at the last-minute put their other work on hold to produce the tribute Sunstrips (including making a special trip to Glasgow for more black ink); to Kevin Crawford of KNC Groundworks for supporting our efforts by agreeing that we could cover up his sunstrips on the windscreens; finally thanks to our Competitors and their teams who supported both our tributes, with a great attendance at the 2-minute silence, and all bar one Car carrying the windscreen sunstrip.

Hopefully you all agree that, in the words of the great John Fife, it was a “dignified and respectful” tribute.

Thanks to the Armstrong Family for their continued support; as title sponsors since the year 2000, we are grateful for their continued enthusiasm for the event, which this year even stretched to welcoming us to Auchenlosh on Friday. Thanks also to Dumfries and Galloway Council for their support.

I also wish to express a very big ‘Thank you’ to all our hard working volunteers, in whatever role they played, who enabled the 2022 Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally to run successfully. #ThanksMarshal

Although we felt it only correct that Social Media activities on our Channels should be extremely reduced on Saturday, we look forward to sharing moments from the event with you over the coming weeks and months.

Finally – congratulations to David Henderson & Chris Lees for taking their first Galloway Hills Rally victory, and of course also to David Bogie for clinching his sixth Scottish Rally Championship title.

Hopefully we will meet again at a future Galloway Hills Rally.

Michael Riddick
Clerk of the Course.
